• Descripción: Cycloheptatriene is a reactive molecule that is used in the synthesis of steroidal alkaloids. Cycloheptatriene is capable of forming a 1,3,5-cycloheptatriene adduct with benzyl groups. The reaction proceeds via an electrophilic addition to the C-C bond of the allyl carbonate followed by a protonation step. The product can be isolated as a crystalline solid and characterized using x-ray diffraction. Cycloheptatriene has been shown to inhibit protein synthesis, which may be due to its ability to bind to ribosomes and act as an electron sink, releasing protons. This can cause a conformational change in the ribosome that prevents it from interacting with other molecules on the ribosome or translating mRNA into proteins.
