It is used in the production of polymeric matrices for the treatment of radiation burns, skin ulcers, and pressure sores. Cholesteryl Bromide from Beef Fat has been shown to be effective in inhibiting the growth of skin cells when applied topically. It also has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vitro and inhibit tumor formation in mice. This fatty acid also has been found to have a role as a biological function by stimulating cell proliferation and being involved in lipid metabolism. It also is an aliphatic hydrocarbon with a group p2 structure that can be converted into cholesteryl erucate through hydrochloric acid.
