The extractant has an efficiency of up to 60% and can be used for the extraction of phenolic and chlorophenolic compounds from aqueous solutions. The extractant is efficient in extracting organic substances from water surfaces, yielding high purity extracts. 3-Chloro-4-methylphenol is especially suited for use in phase extraction because it can be easily regenerated by adding trifluoroacetic acid or methanol followed by heating.
