Descripción

Cardamonin is a natural compound found in the seeds of the plant Elettaria cardamomum. Cardamonin has been shown to inhibit cancer cell growth and induce cell death by inhibiting the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Cardamonin also inhibits squamous cell carcinoma cells, which are associated with bowel disease. Cardamonin binds to DNA, preventing transcription and replication. This binding prevents the formation of an enzyme complex with the enzyme topoisomerase I that is required for DNA unwinding and replication.
