2-Cyanophenylboronic acid is a bifunctional molecule that can be used as an antiviral drug. It binds to the benzodiazepine binding site of HIV-1 reverse transcriptase, which is required for viral replication. The 2-cyanophenylboronic acid-benzodiazepine complex was found to have a greater inhibitory effect on HIV-1 replication than the 2-cyanophenylboronic acid alone. Pharmacokinetics studies have been conducted in rats and mice and showed that the compound had good absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion profiles. Impurities are not usually detected in this product because it is synthetically produced. The reaction solution is acidic with a pH of about 3.5 to 4.5. This product has been shown to have immunosuppressive properties in vitro, which may be due to its ability to induce apoptosis or inhibit chemotaxis of macrophages.END>
