Complanatoside A is a polyphenol found in the roots of Astragalus membranaceus. This compound has significant cytotoxicity and radical scavenging activities, which are due to its ability to inhibit collagenase activity. Complanatoside A also inhibits blood pressure and has dose-dependent effects on matrix metalloproteinases, which may be beneficial for the treatment of cardiovascular disease. Complanatoside A is structurally related to flavonol glycosides and has been shown to have membrane-modulating effects. The agilent c18 column was used for an LC-MS/MS analysis of this compound, which confirmed that it contains fatty acids.
