• Descripción: Chlorofluoroacetic acid is a potent chemical that inhibits the activity of fatty acid synthase. The inhibition is reversible, with an inhibition constant of 3.2 x 10 M. Chlorofluoroacetic acid is a strong Lewis acid and it reacts with the chlorine atom in the active site of the enzyme, forming a chloroformate intermediate. The chloroformate group then attacks the acyl substrate, forming a 2-chloroethyl ester and releasing hydrogen fluoride (HF). Chlorofluoroacetic acid has been shown to be effective against cancer cells in vitro and in vivo, as well as in animal models. This compound was also shown to have an inhibitory effect on rat liver microsomes, although its molecular target is unknown. Chlorofluoroacetic acid has been studied using molecular modeling techniques and vibrational spectroscopy techniques.
