2-Chloro-4-fluorothiophenol is a disulfide which reacts with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of an inorganic base to form hydrochloric acid and 2-chloro-4-fluoroaniline. It has been used for the synthesis of carbamic acid, nitro compounds, and other organic compounds. This compound was first synthesized by reacting phenylmagnesium bromide with 4-fluorobenzaldehyde and then reacting this intermediate with sodium nitrite. The reaction of 2-chloro-4-fluorothiophenol with hydrochloric acid yields 2,2'-dichlorofluorothiophene as a side product.
