Descripción:
2-Chloro-1-(4-fluorophenyl)ethanol is a chlorinated carbenoid that can be used as an efficient reagent for the synthesis of chlorohydrins. It reacts with magnesium in ether to produce chloroiodomethane, which is then reacted with an aldehyde to yield an α,β-unsaturated ester. The reaction of 2-chloro-1-(4-fluorophenyl)ethanol with lithium yields a mixture of products including alcohols and aldehydes. This method is more efficient than the traditional method involving hydrochloric acid and magnesium.
