This compound inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to their cell walls and destroying them at an inhibitory concentration (IC) of 2 μg/mL, which is higher than other antibiotics such as ampicillin or erythromycin (1 μg/mL). 4-Chloro-2-fluoroiodobenzene is also effective against gram negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Proteus vulgaris. This compound has been shown to be effective in treating Staphylococcus aureus infections and cereus infections.
