Descripción

1,3-Oxazolamine is a selective 5-HT1A receptor agonist which produces pressor and hypotensive effects. The drug also has haemodynamic effects in the spinally, producing a decrease in blood pressure. 1,3-Oxazolamine is used to treat hypotension caused by spinal cord injuries or major surgery. It has also been shown to increase arterial pressure in patients with severe heart failure. 1,3-Oxazolamine's mechanism of action is not fully understood but it may involve the activation of imidazoline receptors and antagonism of 2 adrenergic receptors (alpha1 and alpha2). Studies have shown that 1,3-oxazolamine produces maximal responses at doses lower than those required for 5HT1A agonists such as rauwolscine and ketanserin.
