N-Cyano-N-phenyl-p-toluenesulfonamide is a nucleophilic aromatic substitution reagent that can be used to cleave bonds of alkyl groups. It is used in organic synthesis and has been shown to react with copper oxide, forming a copper complex. It also reacts with functional groups such as carbonyl groups and β-amino acids. N-Cyano-N-phenyl-p-toluenesulfonamide can be used for the desulfonylation of thiols, chlorides, and halides. It has been shown to have reactivity with hplc methods, which is a process that separates compounds based on their solubility in particular solvents. N-Cyano-N-phenyl-p -toluenesulfonamide can also be used as an activator for cross coupling reactions involving carbon carbon bonds.
