4,5-Dicyanoimidazole is an organic compound that is used in analytical chemistry. It has a molecular formula of C2N2 and its chemical structure consists of a benzene ring with two cyanide groups attached to it. This molecule can be used as a reagent for the determination of coumarin derivatives by using hydrogen bonding. 4,5-Dicyanoimidazole has been shown to react with nitrobenzene at room temperature in the presence of sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide. The reaction yields 2-aminodiphenylamine and 2,4-diaminotoluene. Further reactions produce 3,4-diaminotoluene and 5,6-diaminotoluene. FTIR spectroscopy has revealed that 4,5-dicyanoimidazole has a strong absorption band at 3200 cm−1 which corresponds to the
