• Descripción: 2,5-Dimercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole is a thiol derivative that has the ability to form a disulfide bond. It has been used in the synthesis of sodium salts as well as in the preparation of fluorescence quenchers. 2,5-Dimercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole is also used as an analytical method for determining carbon disulphide concentrations. The reaction mechanism involves the formation of a carbonyl group from 2,5-dimercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole and CO. This reaction releases energy in the form of heat and light. The rate of this reaction can be increased by raising the temperature or pressure and by adding hydrogen chloride or sodium hydroxide to increase pH levels.
