The compound [(2R,3S,5R)-5-[2,4-Dioxo-5-(Trifluoromethyl)Pyrimidin-1-Yl]-2,3,6,7-Tetrahydro-4H-pyrrolo[1,2-C]Pyrazol[4,3-C]Quinoline (TPQ) is a DNA polymerase inhibitor that inhibits the synthesis of viral DNA. TPQ is a competitive inhibitor with respect to natural nucleoside triphosphates and interacts with the enzyme's active site. TPQ has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of deoxyadenosine triphosphate in uninfected cells and in cells infected with HIV. The compound TPQ has also been shown to be an effective inhibitor of human DNA polymerases alpha and beta.
