3,4-Difluorotoluene is a hydrocarbon solvent that belongs to the group of aromatic hydrocarbons. It has a monolayer structure and functional groups such as hydroxyl, fluorine, and chlorine atoms. 3,4-Difluorotoluene is synthesized by reacting chlorobenzene with difluoroethanol in the presence of aluminum chloride. 3,4-Difluorotoluene is used as an intermediate in organic synthesis and also as a solvent. 3,4-Difluorotoluene can be used to study the reaction between metal surfaces and lipids due to its ability to form monomolecular films on metal surfaces. 3,4-Difluorotoluene has been shown to cause insulin resistance and psychotic disorders in rats.
