2,5-Dichloro-3-fluoropyridine is a potential pesticide. It has been shown to have activity against the plant pests Echinochloa crus-galli and Helicoverpa zea. 2,5-Dichloro-3-fluoropyridine has been found to be effective in vitro against the bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Bacillus subtilis. However, it is not active against the bacteria Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The mechanism of action of 2,5-dichloro-3-fluoropyridine is not known for certain, but it may inhibit bacterial growth by binding to DNA or by inhibiting protein synthesis.
