4,5-Dibromo-6-(trifluoromethyl)pyrimidine is a stable, air-sensitive compound that can be prepared by reacting 4,5-dibromopyrimidine with trifluoromethylmagnesium bromide. The reaction of 4,5-dibromopyrimidine with butyllithium also yields the desired product. This compound has been used in mechanistic studies to probe substituent effects on reactivity and stability.
