It is used for the analysis of plant tissue to quantify the amount of leaves or other plant parts that are present in a sample. This compound can be used to monitor changes in the level of leaves or other plant parts over time and to measure recovery rates after harvest. N-1-Z-1,2-diaminoethane·HCl is labeled with deuterium (D) in order to be detected by liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC–MS). The quantification of N-1-Z-1,2-diaminoethane·HCl can be monitored using multiple reaction monitoring (MRM). The use of this stable isotope overcomes many problems associated with traditional methods, such as environmental variability and tissue degradation.
