3,3-Diphenylpropionitrile is a compound that inhibits protein synthesis. It binds to the enzyme RNA polymerase II and prevents the formation of the initiation complex. The enzyme RNA polymerase II is involved in the synthesis of RNA, which is required for cell division and protein synthesis. 3,3-Diphenylpropionitrile has been shown to be effective against degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and inflammatory diseases such as asthma. 3,3-Diphenylpropionitrile also has anti-cancer properties because it inhibits DNA replication by inhibiting polydeoxyribonucleotide synthesis.
