2,4-Dimethylbenzenesulfonyl chloride is a toolbox molecule that has been shown to be effective as a non-toxic alternative to established drugs in the treatment of human liver cancer. It is an amide that inhibits the activity of epoxyeicosatrienoic acids (EETs) and 2,3-epoxy alcohols by binding to the active site of the enzyme cytochrome P450. This leads to decreased production of reactive oxygen species and reduced tumor growth. The mechanism of action for this drug is due to its ability to inhibit the activity of enzymes at different levels: apical cholesterol transport, fatty acid oxidation, and cellular signaling pathways. Although there are no studies on kinetic and thermodynamic properties for this compound, it has been shown that it does not promote changes in regulatory proteins or alter intracellular pH.
