2,4-Diamino-5-(bromomethyl)pyrimidine is a drug that is used to treat toxoplasmosis. It inhibits the synthesis of amino acids by inhibiting the enzyme dihydroorotate dehydrogenase in parasitic protozoa. This drug binds to the active site and distal regions of the enzyme and has been shown to be effective against mycobacteria resistant to other drugs. 2,4-Diamino-5-(bromomethyl)pyrimidine has also been shown to have an affinity for nuclei, which may contribute to its anti-proliferative properties.
