Descripción

2,4-Dimethylpyrimidine-5-carboxylic acid is a fungicide that is used in horticulture and agriculture to prevent the growth of oomycetes, fungi, and algae. It inhibits the synthesis of proteins by binding to the aminoacetonitrile site on ribosomes. This action prevents the formation of proteins from amino acids and leads to cell death. 2,4-Dimethylpyrimidine-5-carboxylic acid also has chlorinating properties which can be used to control phytotoxicity. The pentoxide form of this compound (2,4-dimethylpyrimidine 5-carboxylate) is an alkenylating agent that reacts with nucleophilic groups on DNA and RNA, leading to cell death.
