Descripción:3,4-Dimethoxyphenyl acetonitrile is a phenylacetonitrile derivative that is used as a starting material in organic synthesis. It can be reacted with an acid or base to form a hydroxy derivative. 3,4-Dimethoxyphenyl acetonitrile has been used in the synthesis of pharmaceutical preparations for the treatment of cancer and inflammatory bowel disease. This compound also acts as an inhibitor of tumor growth and is used in chemotherapy. The mechanism of this drug's action is not well understood but it may inhibit the release of fatty acids from adipose tissue and reduce lipid levels in the blood. 3,4-Dimethoxyphenyl acetonitrile can act as a cyanide antidote by binding to free hydrogen cyanide and forming nontoxic thiocyanate compounds.
