6,8-Dinitroquinoline is a nucleophile that can be synthesized by the nitration of naphthalene. It reacts with chloride to form an electrophilic carbanion and can be used as a synthetic intermediate for the preparation of β-unsaturated ketones. The 6,8-dinitroquinoline molecule has two nitro groups on the same side of the ring and reacts more easily than other dinitro compounds with aldehydes. This unique structure allows for complex molecules to be formed when 6,8-dinitroniquinoline interacts with other molecules.
