2,2-Dimethyltetrahydrothiazole is a particle that is used in the treatment of autoimmune diseases. It has shown to inhibit the activity of ns3 protease, which is involved in the inflammatory response. 2,2-Dimethyltetrahydrothiazole also stabilizes the natural pH of water and reduces the adsorption of heavy metals such as cadmium and chromate ions. It is an acidic compound with a hydroxyl group that can be used as an electrochemical impedance spectroscopy probe. 2,2-Dimethyltetrahydrothiazole has been shown to have antibacterial properties against Escherichia coli while being selective for Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis
