1,3-Di(pyridin-2-yl)urea (1,3-DPU) is a reactive compound that can be synthesized by the reaction of urea with 2,6-dichloropyridine. 1,3-DPU has been shown to have hydrogen bond forming ability and is capable of forming hydrogen bonds with carboxylic acid groups. It also has a carbonyl group that can react with nitrate and nitro compounds. The compound is oxidized by hydrogen peroxide and nitrate to form a variety of oxidation products which may generate luminescence in the presence of amines.
