1,4-Dihydronaphthalene is a reactive and volatile liquid that is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of drugs. It has been shown to be effective against cancer cells in vitro and in vivo, and has anticancer activity. 1,4-Dihydronaphthalene can be used in techniques such as vapor pressure measurements or dihydrodeuterated naphthalene transfer reactions. It has a floppy conformation with vibrational modes at low energies that are not observed for other naphthalenes. The cisplatin binding mode of 1,4-dihydronaphthalene can be studied by infrared spectroscopy or nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra.
