It can also be obtained by reacting triethylenediamine with hydrochloric acid at 100°C under vacuum conditions. 1,4-Diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane has been shown to have antibiotic properties and is able to inhibit the growth of bacteria through coordination geometry and phase transition temperature effects on the bacterial cell membrane.
