(2,2-Dibromovinyl)benzene is an aromatic hydrocarbon that is used as a reactive and hydroxyl functional group. It is insoluble in water and soluble in organic solvents. The polymerization initiator for this compound is magnesium oxide. The reaction product of (2,2-dibromovinyl)benzene with acrylonitrile yields polymers with a molecular weight of 3,000 to 6,000 Daltons. This compound can be used for coatings because it has a high glass transition temperature and good thermal stability.
