It has the molecular formula C6H5I2O2. 3,5-Diiodobenzaldehyde is used to synthesize other compounds with different functional groups. It does not react with water or alcohols due to its high reactivity with oxygen. 3,5-Diiodobenzaldehyde has been shown to interact well with metal ions such as copper and nickel. This interaction leads to intramolecular crosslinking and nanosized particles that are functionalized with the metal coordination complex.
