This drug inhibits the production of ergosterol, which is important for the cell membrane integrity in fungi. Dimethyldioctylammoniumbromide binds to cyclic lipopeptides in the cell membrane by intermolecular hydrogen bonding and prevents their synthesis, which leads to cell death. The monolayer formed by dimethyldioctylammoniumbromide adsorbs on the surface of particles, which enhances light emission and increases the rate of reaction with other molecules.
