4,5-Dibromo-1H-imidazole is a trifluoroacetic acid that has been shown to be an inhibitor of serine proteases. It inhibits the activity of serine proteases in the bladder and ovaries by blocking the binding site of these enzymes to their substrates. This drug also has been found to inhibit tyrosine kinase, which is involved in cell division and cancer progression. 4,5-Dibromo-1H-imidazole has been tested for its effects on cancer cells grown in culture and on tumors in mice. Studies show that this drug inhibits tumor growth and induces apoptosis in bladder cancer cells. The chemical structure of 4,5-dibromo-1H-imidazole makes it a good candidate for use as an electrophotographic monomer in xerography.
