4,5-Diamino-6-mercaptopyrimidine is an oxidised synthetic compound that is insoluble in water. It reacts with alkali metals to form an ion pair, which can be identified by a precipitate of the metal salt. The optimum concentration of 4,5-diamino-6-mercaptopyrimidine is 10 mg/mL in aqueous solution and it is soluble in solvents such as isopropyl alcohol or pyridine. This chemical has a quadrivalent transition state and can be formed by the reaction of a nitrobenzene (N) with 2 molecules of hydrogen sulfide (HS) at elevated temperatures. The formation constants for this reaction are 1.0 × 10 M-1 and the activation energy is 5.24 kcal/mol.
