4,4'-Dichlorobiphenyl is a biphenyl derivative that is used in the production of polyurethane and elastomers. It has been shown to be toxic to animals such as rats, with a low elimination rate. 4,4'-Dichlorobiphenyl has the potential to cause adverse effects on the environment through its photolytic transformation into biphenyl-4-ol and through its toxicity to plants.
