Diethylnitroterephthalate (DENP) is a pyridyl-based substance that attacks the esters of medication. The process of the attack is reversible, which means that DENP can be used as a neutralizer. It has been shown to be able to filter out drugs in water and other liquids. It is also theorized that DENP can be used as a diagnostic agent for the detection of drugs and their metabolites in urine. The selectivity of DENP has been shown by its ability to selectively detect amphetamine from other substances such as morphine or codeine. This characteristic has made it possible for researchers to patent DENP for this use.
