2,5-Dibromophenol is a stilbene derivative that is used as an analytical reagent in the analysis of urine samples. 2,5-Dibromophenol has been shown to be effective in the detection of bromophenols and other organic compounds. It can also be used as a chemical intermediate for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and dyes. The compound is most commonly produced by the reaction of bromine with phenol using heat or UV light.
