Descripción

5,6-Dimethoxyindoline is an organic compound that contains a benzene ring with a methoxy group at the 5th and 6th positions. It is a synthetic intermediate in the production of melanins, which are pigments responsible for skin and hair coloration. The compound was first synthesized by catalytic hydrogenation of nitrobenzene in 1891. Oxidation of 5,6-dimethoxyindoline yields silver oxide, which is used as an oxidizing agent in organic chemistry. Demethylated 5,6-dimethoxyindolines can be cyclized to form indoles such as 1,2-dihydrobenz(e)indole.
