5,6-Dichloro-2-methylbenzimidazole (DDMB) is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme nitroreductase. The inhibition of this enzyme leads to a decrease in the production of nitric oxide, which is important for the regulation of blood pressure and chemotherapy. DDMB has been shown to be effective against thiourea, nitro, and ferroelectric molecules. DDMB is also an optical molecule that can be used to measure the polarizability and frequencies of radiation. DDMB has been shown to have potent inhibitory activity against irradiation by UV light.
