- 4-Pyridinamine, 3,5-diiodo-
- 4-Amino-3,5-Diiodopyridine
3,5-Diiodopyridin-4-amine is a reagent that is used in organic synthesis. It is used as a catalyst for the selective acetylation of α-methylbenzyl alcohols and phenols. 3,5-Diiodopyridin-4-amine is also used as a reagent in other reactions such as the oxidation of 4-aminopyridine with potassium permanganate and the conversion of olefins to nitriles with hydrogen peroxide. The structure of 3,5-diiodopyridin-4-amine has been shown to be responsible for its catalytic activity. This molecule contains two groups that are conformationally constrained by steric interactions (i.e., the iodines), which allows it to selectively bind to specific carbon atoms on the substrate molecule.
