2,6-Dimethoxypyridine is a chemical compound with the molecular formula C5H5N2O2. It is an organic peroxide that can be synthesized from pyridine by oxidation with sodium nitrate in the presence of a light source. 2,6-Dimethoxypyridine has been shown to possess photocatalytic activity and to be able to inhibit DNA transcription. The mechanism for 2,6-dimethoxypyridine's inhibition of DNA transcription is not well understood but may involve interactions with transcriptional regulators or protein synthesis.
