It is a white, crystalline powder that has a high melting point, low vapor pressure, and low solubility in water. This product is not soluble in acid solutions, which makes it useful as a diluent for death (e.g., trichloroacetic) or acidic compounds that are damaging to living cells or tissue. 4',4''(5'')-Di-tert-butyldicyclohexano-18-crown-7 has been shown to be effective at inhibiting the growth of bacteria by preventing cell cycle phase progression and interfering with ionophores and bacterial membrane function.
