(3E)-3,7-Dimethylocta-1,3,6-triene is a terpene that has been shown to have a number of biological properties. It has been found to possess antioxidant properties and inhibit the growth of several bacteria, including methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus. (3E)-3,7-Dimethylocta-1,3,6-triene also modulates the activity of enzymes and alters the metabolism of other compounds. This molecule has been shown to affect polymerase chain reactions and alter the production of water vapor. The chemical's reaction mechanism is not well understood.
