Dimethylphencyclidine may also act as a nociceptive agent and has been shown to modulate pain in animals. This drug has also been shown to be neuropathic, as it inhibits the development of chronic constriction injury (CCI) in rats by reducing the formation of reactive oxygen species and increasing the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF).
