5,6-Dichloro-2,4-pyrimidinediamine (1) is a synthetic intermediate for the synthesis of pyridazine and pyridine. 1 has shown antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae. It also has been shown to be effective against Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, and Klebsiella pneumoniae. 5,6-Dichloro-2,4-pyrimidinediamine is an imidazole compound that can be used in the synthesis of new drugs with antiinflammatory properties. The functional groups on this molecule are highlighted in red and blue respectively. This molecule can connect to other molecules through its two amide bonds or n -oxide group.
