It has a boiling point of about -3°C and can be converted to 2,2-dimethylpropane by adding hydrogen fluoride in a reaction vessel under constant pressure at low temperatures. The analytical method for determining the concentration of 2,2-dimethylbutane involves measuring the affinity constants of phenyl groups with dipropyl ether or hexane. The affinity constants are measured using constant pressure at low temperatures and activation energies are determined using ternary mixtures containing 2,2-dimethylbutane.
