This compound has been detected in trace amounts in n-hexane, an organic solvent, and leukotriene A4, an inflammatory mediator. Decanophenone also reversibly reacts with trifluoroacetic acid to form decanoic acid. Inorganic compounds such as chromatographic stationary phases can be detected using decanophenone's carbonyl group. Decanophenone's functional groups are useful for particle size analysis, which can be performed by reversed-phase high-performance chromatography. Decanophenone interacts with membranes and can be detected by infrared spectroscopy.
