1,6-Dinonyl hexanedioate is a fatty acid with a polyvinyl chloride backbone. It is a corrosion inhibitor, which means that it prevents the metal from corroding or rusting. This product also has antioxidative properties, meaning that it helps protect other materials from oxidation. 1,6-Dinonyl hexanedioate is biodegradable and can be made using renewable resources such as corn oil. This product has been shown to have osmotic properties in the range of 0.1 to 1 M salinity and viscosity control at high concentrations of 0.5% to 3%. The reaction products of 1,6-dinoly hexanedioate are amines, which have been shown to have pH buffering effects in water systems.
