1,2-Diethylnaphthalene is an isomerizing agent that can be used as a polymerization initiator and a cross-linking agent. It is prepared by the reaction of naphthalene with ethylene glycol. 1,2-Diethylnaphthalene can be used as a monomer in the production of polyvinyl alcohol and polyethylene terephthalate, among other products. The reaction products are aliphatic hydrocarbons with nitrogen atoms in the chain. The product has been found to have some utility as a sectioning agent when combined with acid catalyst.
