2-(2,3-Dihydroxyphenyl)acetic acid is a natural compound that is found in plants and animals. It can be inactivated by mineralization and the cleavage of its chloride group. 2-(2,3-Dihydroxyphenyl)acetic acid is used as a pharmaceutical drug for the treatment of viral infections. It has been shown to have antiviral properties against strains such as HIV-1 and influenza A/PR/8/34. 2-(2,3-Dihydroxyphenyl)acetic acid also inhibits the replication of DNA viruses such as herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1).
